Hong Kong and Overseas
In the spirit of Alastair Cook's 'Letters from America' our Honorary Club Secretary, Andy Gledhill, sent this message from Hong Kong where he's working for a while and the first Old Rishworthian Reunion - Hong Kong Style!
Greetings from HK. Hope you are all well.
I'm delighted to report that on Monday 12 January 2009 I attended my first OR reunion in HK. After circularising all the Chinese sounding names on Rishworth Reunited in the School's website only days before, things moved very quickly. Alex Ma (1979 - 1983) who I'd first met at School 30 years ago, moved into overdrive to arrange at very short notice a 'Spring Dinner' ahead of the CNY celebrations.
Eleven of us met at 7.30pm in a chinese restaurant on the Canton Rd, Kowloon where we enjoyed a super meal & evening in our own private dining room. I was reunited with Alex & Clement who I'd first met at Rishworth 30 years ago. Lots of happy memories. We started the evening with a moment's silence for Jack Williams, who sadly died in December. Everyone who attended the dinner, including myself, all attended school in the 1980s. This is our team pic taken after the meal.

Alex (1979-1983); Clement (1979-1983); Paul Leung (1983-1985); Connie (1983-1985); Monica (1984-1987); Joe (1982-1985)
Tony, Stanley & James have yet to send me their 'school years'
The evening was a great success and thoroughly enjoyed by all those who attended. I'd also received apologies for 6 other ORs who could'nt make it on the night. We'd all like to build on the goodwill already generated in HK & have further reunions & events ideally something that coincides with Sharon's next visit to HK (late October?). We also talked about setting up our own HK branch (only after it is approved by the Club) with its own page on the club's website. Any publicity generated in the School's newsletter would be a great lift.
Joe is a senior police officer in HK as well as a helicopter pilot in his spare time. He's invited me to go out for a spin to see HK from the skys. All very exciting.
Prior to Monday I'd already made contact with 4 HK ORs who attended school between 1987-1989. Ricky, Peter, Wilson & Alan are also very enthusiastic about attending future events.
Below is a photo of Ricky & myself taken in a late night drinking haunt in Kowloon.
In the meantime, happy CNY & I'll catch up with you very soon.
Kind Regards
